Case Advocacy and Crisis Management

A vital part of our Mission is providing assistance and advocacy to the adoption community. While many organizations exist to assist adoption professionals, there was a void in services available to individual adoptive families in need of advocacy or crisis management–until the formation of Ethica.

Since our inception in January 2003, Ethica has assisted individual families, birth families and adoptees. We’ve assisted with not only US domestic adoptions but also adoptions originating from the countries of Viet Nam, Cambodia, Romania, Guatemala, Panama, Haiti, India, China, Russia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Pakistan, the United States and the Marshall Islands. The problems involved range from paperwork delays in governmental offices to the need for emergency processing to bring an ailing child to the US.

One family’s story…

Ethica also provides up-to-the-minute information and advocacy on crisis situations involving groups of adoptive families. Information is dispensed on our website, and Ethica maintains almost daily communication with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of State and Congressional offices to monitor adoption situations around the world.

With situations arise that require collective advocacy efforts, Ethica helps identify problems and possible solutions and advocates for responsible crisis management efforts by US government officials. Ethica also monitors changes in adoption policy around the globe and provides information to families, agencies and government officials on changes that will affect US adoptions. When opportunities arise, Ethica provides written comments and feedback on legislative changes–both in the US and in foreign countries.

Your support is vital to the continuance of our case advocacy and crisis management efforts. Donations to support this project are used to pay the expenses incurred in providing services to families and in maintaining information resources for the adoption community.
