Ethica’s Position on Fathers’ Rights

Ethica believes in the preservation of families of origin; that
children should be parented by their original parents, if at all
possible. We believe that support and help should be given to original
parents so that they can parent their children, and we believe that
poverty and youthful age are not reasons for any parent to be separated
from their children.

Ethica believes that both fathers and mothers have equal rights and
responsibilities to parent their child. The role of a father in a
child’s life is equally important to that of a mother. In keeping with
that, we believe that consent to allow a child to be adopted must come
from both the mother and the father. Fathers should not have to
overcome hurdles that are not required of mothers in order to parent
their children. Ethica believes it is the duty of the courts and
legislatures to equally protect the rights of both fathers and mothers.
Any attempt to circumvent a father’s consent is a fundamental violation
of the parental right to raise a child.

Ethica is an independent voice for ethical adoption practices. Ethica
advocates for national and international reform of unethical practices,
offering support, education and advocacy to all persons affected by
adoption. To maintain our independence, Ethica does not accept monetary
support from anyone who places children for adoption.
