An independent voice for ethical adoption
Changes to Tuberculosis Screening and Treatment for immigrants are being implemented in stages in different geographic areas; these changes may affect travel for adoptive families, particularly for those families adopting HIV positive children. Specifically, on October 6, 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services and Center for Disease Control (CDC) published an Interim Final Rule for 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 34 - Medical Screening of Aliens that amended the definition of a communicable disease of public health significance in 42 CFR 34.2(b), the scope of the examination (42 CFR 34.3), and the evaluation criteria for tuberculosis in 42 CFR 34.3.
