Update on Two Central Authorities

On Jan. 31, Ethica received information from the Department of State about two Central Authorities operating simultaneously in Guatemala. Despite requests from us for addresses, we were told that the attorneys would have the addresses of both offices and that we should simply tell families to ensure that their representatives filed with both offices. From then, through yesterday afternoon, we were consistently told there were two actual offices in different locations. Yesterday, we were told that an official announcement would be posted by DOS about the two offices.

We just received word that no official announcement is going out because they have new information and they are seeking clarification on what is actually occurring. Therefore, at this time we are unclear whether or not there are actually two separate offices, as opposed to two sets of administrators– despite repeated assurances that there were. We will post clarifying information as soon as it becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the confusion.
